How to Use the Knit Fabric Costing Calculator

Enter the fabric specifications for each option you want to compare. Each comparison can represent a different fabric specification or costing scenario.

Step 1 — Enter the Fabric Specifications

Enter the fabric and order information in the calculator above. The results update automatically, allowing you to compare up to three fabric options side by side.

For each fabric option, enter the applicable values for:

• GSM — The finished fabric weight in grams per square meter.
• Finished Width — The usable finished width of the fabric.
• Fabric Price — The fabric purchase price used for the costing calculation.
• Processing Loss — The expected fabric loss percentage used when calculating the required production input.

Step 2 — Enter the Order Information

Enter the order information used to calculate the total fabric requirement and estimated fabric cost for production.

• Order Q’TY — Enter the total garment order quantity.
• Consumption / Garment — Enter the estimated fabric consumption required per garment.

The order quantity and garment consumption are applied across the comparison scenarios so that different fabric options can be evaluated under the same order conditions.

Step 3 — Review the Calculated Fabric Results

The calculator automatically converts the fabric specifications and order information into practical costing and production quantities for each comparison option.

• g / Linear Yard — Shows the calculated fabric weight per linear yard based on GSM and finished width.
• Yield / Input KG — Shows the estimated number of linear yards available from one kilogram of fabric.
• Fabric Cost / Yard — Converts the fabric price into an estimated cost per linear yard.
• Required Production Input KG — Estimates the total fabric weight required to produce the order, including the processing loss entered in the calculator.
• Total Fabric Cost — Shows the estimated total fabric cost required for the order based on the calculated production input.

Review these results across Fabric A, B, and C to see how different fabric specifications affect fabric yield, required production quantity, and total fabric cost.

Step 4 — Compare the Fabric Options

Use Comparison A, B, and C to evaluate different fabric scenarios side by side. Change the fabric specifications in each comparison column and review how the calculated results change.

This comparison can help you evaluate the cost impact of different GSM, finished width, fabric price, and processing-loss assumptions before making a production or costing decision.

The lowest fabric price does not always result in the lowest total fabric cost. Fabric weight, width, yield, consumption, and processing loss should be considered together.

Actual fabric requirements may vary depending on fabric characteristics, cutting efficiency, marker utilization, shrinkage, production methods, order size, and other manufacturing conditions.

Fabric price and consumption should be based on the most current supplier quotation, approved fabric specification, and production information available at the time of costing.

Always review the calculated results against the actual fabric, garment, and production conditions before confirming a final cost or fabric order quantity.
